Views Of The City

Bottom: Foreign Exchange (maxi worn in this post)
Gloves: Nordstrom Rack
Boots: Lulu's (old), similar here
Necklace: Urban Outfitters

Here is another look from Seattle. I layered a slouchy silver sweater over my long sleeve black maxi dress that I posted on awhile back. Then.... my fav part..... I added some black, chunky knit fingerless gloves! I mean, how cute are they!? Really.....
I was so stoked when I found these gloves. I had a very specific idea in mind when I was shopping for them (thank goodness I have a patient husband). I really wanted them to be black, long, and go straight across on the knuckle area, not the fingerless ones that still have finger holes, ya know!?
As most of you know, I love peace signs! What!? Ha, Can you tell from my signature and wrist tattoo!? :) Anyways, this necklace screamed "Kara!" with the cute peace heart, so of course my mom nailed it when she gave this to me for Christmas. Love love love it! I wear it constantly.

And I can't end this post without talking about the beautiful views of the city from this shoot..... so gorgeous! We shoot this look at Kerry Park, a great spot to view the city from. I just love the Space Needle, so iconic of Seattle.

Pike Place Market

+GIANT crab legs!!+

+Making my contribution to the famous Seattle Gum Wall!+

+White Peach Moscow Mules with my mother-in-law!+
DE-LISH!!

Choies Sheath Boot (remember these beauties from this post!?)
H&M Jeweled Tiger Sweater (old)

Ok, so lets take it back to Seattle, WA for this post, which has now become my second home (since its where my husband is from).

Pike Place Market..... I'm obsessed! Probably one of my fav spots in Seattle. Its the coolest market with tons of amazing fresh flowers, fruits/veggies and of course, seafood..... all locally sourced. It really is a spot you MUST check out if you go to Seattle.

And bonus, Rachel's Ginger Beer (previous post here) is right next to the market! Score, I mean whats better than shopping around the market, maybe grabbing a bread bowl of chowder and then stopping for a delicious cocktail after!? NOTHING! :)

DIY: Bar Stool Makeover

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Ok, so I'm super excited about this project I just completed for our house. I've really been trying to lighten up our whole house, starting with the living room. ... And I've never really liked these boring old bar stools we had, they are just so BLAH. So I thought, "There has to be some kind of DIY project I can do with these to spruce them up and make them more attractive". Here's what I came up with.

I started with the basic bar stools, unscrewing the cushions from the metal base.

Next, I did 2 coats for white primer.

Once the primer layers were dry, I coated it in a gold "hammered" look spray paint. Again, I did several layers to make sure it was evenly coated and covered.

For the cushions, I bought a Faux Sheepskin Rug from Ikea ($9.99.... can't beat that price!!) that I cut in half and wrapped around each cushion. To secure it, I used a staple gun to staple the fabric to the underside, cutting away any extra fabric. Then I simply screwed them back on to the base and.......

TA-DA!!! A brand new look for a boring old stool.
Not so boring anymore, huh!?

I'm so stoked on how they turned out and even better, how easy and cheap it was to do!

Real vs Steal: Tom Ford Zipper Dress

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

I love me a little black dress..... especially one that has a a sexy back like this one! I saw Jennifer Lawrence in this gorgeous backless zipper detailed dress by Tom Ford awhile back and fell in love. I love that its a simple black dress from the front, then you turn around and BAM! sexy in the back. And the zipper detail, to die! But Tom Ford=$$$. So of course, I went on the hunt for a similar but much more wallet friendly version. Sure enough, Lulus pulled through, and at $57 this dress is a serious steal. Perfect dress for a night on the town with the girls or date night with your love!

Real vs Steal: Givenchy Sheath Boot

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Hey all! We have finally made it back home from the holidays and are gettin' back to it. I went crazy yesterday getting our house back in order.... we still had a bunch of Christmas decorations around that needed to be put away and tons of stuff to put away and just re-organize for the new year.

But now..... for this post! OMG I'm so excited about this posted and find, I'm might pee my pants (I won't actually but that's how excited I am!). So I've seen these Givenchy Sheath boots pop up several places this fall and fell absolutely in love with them.... until I saw the price tag, $1695. Are you freakin' kidding me!? There is no way in hell I could/would pay that much money for a pair of boots, fantastic as they may be!

Luckily, as I was reading through some of the blogs I follow, I found a post on these very boots with (drum roll, please!) a "steal" version for a much more affordable price! Being the queen of creating "looks for less", my heart skipped a beat. They are IDENTICAL, I mean look at them!? They couldn't be more perfect! And for a fraction of the cost at $175. I instantly had to add these boots from Choies.com (found here) to my Christmas wish list and I'm sooooo glad I did! Cause sure enough, I opened up a box with these bad boys in it from my in-laws at Christmas. Oh and let me just tell you, they did not disappoint in person! Just perfection!

Can you tell how excited I was when I opened the box to see these beauties!?

Stay tuned for some up-coming outfit posts with these boots! Lots of ideas!!

2014 To-Do's

Friday, January 3, 2014

Hey all! I know this is a few days late but we took a quick trip up to Canada yesterday and stayed overnight wight he in-laws... meaning I didn't have my computer and couldn't use my phone, so here I am, posting this a few days late!

2014 is officially here and I am sooooo excited for what this year has in store!

Looking back, 2013 was an interesting year for me.... went through some lows but ultimately had the highest high possible when I married my best friend and love of my life! I gained a ton of new FANTASTIC family, and the wedding (planning and all) not only brought me closer to my husband, who PS. was super involved with the planning process :), but also with my family! I am thankful to have such amazing people surrounding and supporting me!

And friends..... ah friends.... I know everyone says this but i really mean it, I think I have a pretty damn amazing group for friends both close by and far away! Thank you to all my friends who have helped me create so many incredible memories this past year... You all mean the world to me and I look forward to more good times in the future!

I know this next year will be great! I can feel it in my bones :) I hope to grow The Freebird, enjoy my newlywed bliss, prepare for my sisters wedding, and many many more things. I am thrilled to have my little brother living back home  again so he can be a part of so many of the fun events we do throughout the year. I can't wait to spend more time with my family and friends!

So now its time to really start this year off on the right foot.... 2014, lets do this!
